J.B. Hagjer Degree College
J.B. Hagjer Degree College was established in 1995. It was permitted by Assam University, Silchar (established under the central University Act III of 1989).
At present, the College is temporary Affiliated to the Assam University, Silchar.
The college is located at Umrongso; the remote corner of the Dima Hasao district and this is the only educational institution imparting higher education to students mostly belonging to the tribal communities in this area.
The College is named after Joy Bhadra Hagjer (1914-1973), who was a great political leader and educationists of Dima Hasao, for his contribution in the realm of human society, Joy Bhadra Hagjer earned his reputation as the "Wonder worker" and "Friend of the Poor".
At present the college has an area of 15 bighas and the College Campus is eco-friendly which promotes peace of mind and creates conducive academic environment.
Our teachers are committed and dedicated for the development of the institution by imparting their knowledge and play the role of facilitator as well as role model to our students.
Due to their selfless and untiring efforts, the institution has grown from strength to strength and stage by stage in academics and infrastructure and the college caters the higher educational needs of economically, educationally and socially backward students who hail from nearly 110 villages around the Umrongso town (Garampani Constituency).
Further, it may be noted here that the college is running with the Adhoc – recurring grants
from N.C.HillS Autonomous Council, Haflong, Dima Hasao.
